Dr Phil is one of the rare talk shows I do like.
I've read different stories and seen different things on TV and wonder if the Spears clan is trying to throw this on his lap to get back in good with Britney or take the pressure off of Lynn & Jamie Lynn for the pregnancy story. Lynn is looking like the betrayed mother here when two weeks ago she was considered a bad mother. Hmm, looks like her asking Dr Phil to the hospital might have worked to her advantage...
It's no secret that with Jamie Lynn pregnant, her show may not be renewed. It's also no secret that Britney found out about the pregnancy like the rest of us.
Lynn & Dr Phil, his wife have been friends for a while. I don't doubt she asked him to go speak to Britney since she probably wouldn't have been welcomed there herself. As I said, I like Dr Phil, I've always wondered if maybe he could talk sense into Brit and was glad to see he went to see her.
I do watch ET online and have seen Dr Phil defend Lynn with her parenting when Jamie got pregnant. I also caught a few of the clips with him speaking about Britney and found a few of the quotes if anyone cares to read them...
Dr Phil issued a statement if anyone wants to read it, it can be found

For anyone that wants to see exclusives of what Dr Phil has said.. he spoke to Entertainment Tonight..
Dr. Phil's Exclusive Statement To ET On Britney (http://www.etonline.com/news/2008/01/57024/index.html - broken link)
Quote:
"My meeting with Britney and some of her family members this morning in her room at Cedars leaves me convinced more than ever that she is in dire need of both medical and psychological intervention. She was released moments before my arrival and was packing when I entered the room. We visited for about an hour before I walked with her to her car. I am very concerned for her."

"She needs to be in treatment, she needs to be in in-patient care for a period of time," he advises. "Is she having a rough time right now? Yes she is. Why? I'm not really going to go into that at this point. But I can tell you this is a good person and I truly believe she'll get back to being a good person."

Dr. Phil tells ET: "There's been no betrayal of Britney; I have all the respect in the world for her. I may be the one person in the media that's never said a negative word about that girl, or her family for that matter. My visit to her was private. It was intended to be private from the beginning.
"There's some spokesperson that's been out there talking to the contrary," he adds, "and I'm just sitting here saying I know the truth and so does everybody in the Spears camp. I just figure this will work itself like everything else does. Right now people need to be focusing on Britney, not on me, so am I glad they stepped up and told the truth about everything? Sure."

Dr. Phil Criticized for Britney Brouhaha (broken link)
The fact is that the Spears family contacted him to speak to her. Knowing Dr Phil the way the probably do, they had to know he'd say something and from what I've read / saw I don't think it's anything that no one already knew.. she needs to get help. I'm pretty sure he's already said that before he went to see her.
Oh well, it didn't work
