...I so do not understand why Oprah's so visible on the book tour circuit. If there is anybody on earth who does not need the publicity and money - it's Oprah. Why would anybody as wealthy (deservedly), famous and respected as she is need to "sell" her book to everyone? It's incomprehensible to me that she is making the rounds to TV hosts to sell her book when on every level, she does not need to. She even said on the Daily Show with Trevor Noah what a wonderful life she has (again, deservedly). Why does she need to shill her book like a newly minted author? It's just weird!
She's not the only one who stands to benefit from book sales. Her publisher has a vested interest as well. They want it to do well. What's the point of publishing a book that has the potential to be a bestseller if you don't promote it?
And who are we to decide when anyone has "enough" or "needs" publicity and money?

Because Oprah, like many celebs, thrives on being in the spotlight.
Many mega rich, wealthy, people don't work for the money. Most would likely say the don't. There are some well known examples of people who give away most of what they earn.
-- They enjoy what they do.
-- Their personality is such that they need the attention of the public eye.
-- They feel their work gives them purpose.
-- The prestige of some jobs also brings power. And power might even be better currency than money.
And yes, I'm sure there are those who for whatever reason feel they can never or will never have "enough," whatever that amount is.
Personally, if I had enough money so the next three generations of my family didn't have to work, I'd be on an island letting my money work for me. But I work for money. So there you go.
I've found her to be annoying since I first saw her on WJZ-13 Eyewitness News, and hosting the weekly gripefest "Square Off".
"Waaaaaaahhhhhhhhhh! Jerry Turner was a meanie."
