The Queen passed away at Balmoral on Thursday, September 8 at the age of 96. The news was announced to the world at 6.30pm. But it is not just humans who had to be informed of the sad news.

A bizarre ancient tradition saw the royal beekeeper tell the palace bees that the Queen had died. John Chapple made the poignant journey to the hive on Friday where he carried out the ancient ritual.

Why? How do you think the bees would feel if they heard it secondhand from the chipmunks or something?

TBH...it's not a bad idea. Honeybees all over the world are threatened, so, why not, just in case?

How bizarre. She was not a bee, so why would they consider her their queen bee? And besides, the bees don't care that she's dead.

Are you sure of that? Did you ask them?

Aw, I think it's neat they would honor such an old tradition.

I love tradition, so I’m good with it. Actually, I believe beekeepers do talk to their bees and the bees remain calm when they recognize who is near.

Yes, bees do recognize who tends to them. My son, had 3 hives, 5 boxes, stacked for each hive. Anyway, wore protective gear, when needing to tend to the hives, the bees went about there usual activity. When his wife, someone they didn't know, they reacted differently.
