I have the Samsung Tab 2 and Ipad 2. Short version is that the Ipad is better due to the battery lasting much longer. The Samsung acts like a PC and runs too many things in the background, you can limit a few of them but it continuously want to be turned on. The Ipad doesn't run any processes in the background unless it notifies you. I've run Netflix thru both. Ipad lasted three movies, Samsung died in the middle of the second.

Another main difference between a smarthphone (iPhone/Android) and a tablet (iPad/Notepad) is that the phones have a smaller screen and less connections to external devices. I can watch Netflix on either my Motorola Razr (Android) or on my iPad. It is much easier on the eyes using my iPad for Netflix and much more battery life than my phone. All comes down to personal preference and budget. Subsidized smartphones are more economical than iPads/Notepads). Good luck.

lol this ^^

They are all great in their own way depending on what you need it for. In other words putting a Fiat in an F-1 race might be entertaining to watch but completely misses the point.

Take a look at the new Windows products coming out as well. Just another win for consumers and multitude of choices.

Most of the technology blogs say to skip the Android tablets due to the lack of applications. I have an iPad 3 and would agree that it's by far the best tablet on the market. For smartphone platforms it comes down to what you value.
