Competition is finally driving some of the carriers to offer deals, Sprint just offered this one to beat out the T-Mobile offering. Maybe it can save some of you some $$$$

In many areas, especially in cities, Sprint has good service. In fact, in most cities, Sprint is just behind Verizon Wireless. Sprint sucks when you go into rural areas, but Verizon works well there. T-Mobile has good coverage but their capacity makes them completely useless in heavily populated areas.

I disagree. Sprints service in most cases is junk... And their plummeting stocks and net losses seem to agree.
PS I'm referring to their overall loss over the years vs their peak. The more people lost... The smaller the losses "appear" to be over time.

Sprint and T-Mobile are useless in my area. What good is saving $20-$30 a month if your phone doesn't work when you need to call AAA on a road trip?

Calling AAA requires voice (CDMA or GSM depending on the carrier). Both Sprint and T-Mobile have roaming agreements for voice (Sprint with Verizon and T-Mobile with ATT). Voice is not the issue. It's the data. If you need data in rural areas, then you'd be an idiot to go with Sprint or T-Mobile unless you restrict yourself to the few rural areas where they work. Even in urban areas, where T-Mobile has good coverage, their infrastructure is so weak that they're constantly overcapacity.
I'm on the Sprint network. Their speeds here in Chicago are abysmal. They're even worse in many cities where I travel. Honestly, the best speeds are not in the cities but out in the cornfields just outside of smaller markets where they've rolled out 4G. I'm lucky to get 2mbps in Chicago. Plant me just outside of Kankakee and I get 15-20mbps. Champaign/Urbana? Lucky to get 4G at all; more likely to get 3G so congested it rivals dial-up for suck. Throw me out in a cornfield by Ogden and again, it's 15mpbs+. Indy? Junk. A cornfield north of Carmel? Blazing.

When I travel to Chicago, I get good speeds on both my Sprint phone and Verizon phone (I generally don't leave the city). My T-Mobile phone is completely useless.
