A memory effect has long been known to exist in Nickel-Cadmium- and Nickel-metal hydride batteries. They seem to forget their full capacity if you area always topping them off.

Since lithium-ion batteries started to be successfully marketed in the 1990s, the existence of the memory effect in this type of battery had been ruled out. It was considered to have no ill effect to top them off every night. Recently, research has shown that there might still be some memory effect, but it is very small compared to Nickel Cadmium.

Check and see what kind of battery you have, but most cell phones have lithium batteries today.

NMH also did not have memory problem as NiCad did. Lithium have circuit board that controls charge and never should be fully discharge unlike NiCad.The circuit will not let it do so as long as not left as is for long period. Apple has charging recommendation if you search their site.

Plug in the charger each night when you go to bed. If the phone runs low during the day plug in. Do not worry about time of day etc.
