I have a MC40 Symbol that is running on Android. I'm not sure which version. Its a Wal-Mart mc40 because it says on top in the home screen. (Walmart MC40C) you can't access really anything on it and the only thing on the home screen is an app that says "setup" but I think it's for a Wal-Mart person to use. How can I load a costom ROM into this thing? Like how can I get past all the security measures and load my own ROM ( like android 5.0 or Windows 8 mobile) I have access to a Windows 10 computer and USB cables. .
The hardware dictates what OS you can use. We use Symbol/Motorola scanners here where I work and they are basically just a handheld computer as the MC40 is. Ours run either Windows CE or Pocket PC. That's what they were designed for and that's all they run. When there is a large customer base for a certain device and and there interest from programmers/developers is when you may find support for alternate versions of the OS (such as custom ROM's) If there are hardly any people that have even heard of the device, let alone own one, your chances are slim to none. What OS is on the device now? Chances are you are stuck with that. You may able to upgrade and that is it.
It's running on Android. I don't have it no more I took it to one of the Wal-Mart's . but yeah it was running Android. I'm not sure what version. Yes I do relize it's not a phone. However it does have the capabilities to become one.
How about returning the MC40 back to the Walmart you found it at... Those things are very expensive & it can cost someone their job if they can't find or replace it.
