My phone is 4 months old, and repeatedly freezes up. This generally happens after 4pm. It seems to be triggered by using websites, where there are multiple pages involved. Such as this particular website CityData . it also happens on online banking, transit websites. Actually its gotten worse since Verizon, had a outage 3 weeks ago in Fla.

I have repeatedly called Verizon Tech support. They tell me everything with my phone is working fine. They told me yesterday to change to the Beyond Unlimited plan, and I still have the problem.

Should I continue calling Tech Support, or go into the Verizon Store where I bought the phone? The phone has been reset, cache cleared. What could be causing this problem? I'm told I'm not reaching the GB level, where Verizon would slow things down. So I don't know what to do. The phone just freezes up, and is of no use for 15 to 20 minutes at a time. I think I was a lot better off with just the flip phone.

Have you updated the operating system and the apps, if not maybe try that.

1. If you have too many websites open at the same time that could be overloading your phone.

2. Having an unlimited plan is not going to fix your problem

3. Your particular handset could be the problem. Go to a Verizon store. You will get better service than phone line tech support.

If all else fails get an iPhone or a Samsung

That's not at all true. Chrome, which is the default, is built to handle this. I had 42 tabs open in Chrome on mobile last week before I closed them all. I had no idea because it did not impact my phones performance at all. All those pages were not actually live and running. Chrome just remembers which tabs you have open and when you switch to one it reloads the page.

To OP: Anytime you ask for help we need to know specifics. #1 being: which phone? That's kind of important. I'm going to bet we are not talking about a higher end G5/G6 or V20/V30?

Thanks everyone for the replies. My phone seems to be fine now. I went into the Verizon Store, and the employee was able to remedy the problem. At least so far. Cleaned out the cache, and got rid of some apps that may have slowed it down. Also I was on a plan that slowed down, even before I reached my limit. So I changed plans. I'm now on the Beyond Unlimited plan. The speed is much faster now, and I haven't had any more freeze ups.

It's not a high-end phone. Its the $240 LG. I don't need much. Thanks Again

The old fix hardware and software issues with infrastructure trick. Gets them every time.

Being able to use more data before being put in the slow lane is a workaround. Gives the illusion of the phone being faster because websites are loading faster and you aren't buffering when streaming as much as you used to.

Honestly did not think that tech support people were employing that old trick to upsell people in 2018 but whatever works. SMH.

As others have mentioned the infrastructure issue you're having is the hardware, not what Verizon is providing you through their network. There are also browsers that do not load images and browsers that only load the necessary parts of a website, and block ads. For example you can set up Firefox to block images and only load them while you are on WiFi. And you can use Opera Mini to block ads and only download what is absolutely necessary for that webpage to work, but it can cause issues with some webpages.

Before doing either I would try the Data Saving mode directly in Google Chrome. It does not overdo it, and pages still load properly. You might save like 15% of your data that way.
