You could get an iPhone 13 Mini at that point (gone as new from Apple after release of the iPhone 14 series ?).

It's almost as small....exact same thickness....only 3.7mm wider (under 1/7 of an inch) and 7.7mm taller.

.....Or an iPhone 12 Mini.

The iphone 14 has not been released, and won’t be before September, if Apple sticks with it’s normal schedule. The 13 Mini is still new..

And the 13 Mini might stay available as new a bit after the 14 comes out.....just probably not unlocked from Apple, but rather through major carriers +/or some MVNOs.

My wife has a 12 Mini and it’s okay except I really hate Face ID and no headphone jack. I guess those are things I must eventually get used to.

Apple makes a small lightening to 3.5mm (standared for small, wired headphones or earbuds) adapter/dongle for $9.

I have a couple of them (use them sometimes with my 2020 SE).

They work pretty well.

I have an Iphone SE (2016) which I got used on Swappa for about $100 a couple of years back. The battery level is now finally down to 88% when fully charged, which means I have to keep it plugged in most of the day as it drains fast. I really like this very small phone, so plan to stick with Apple for now.

First option is to let a local repair shop put in a new battery for $50 and keep this phone going for another year or longer. Its rumored it will stop getting software updates this year though. How bad is it to keep using an iphone after updates stop?

Second choice is to get a used 2022 SE or possibly the Iphone 12 or 13 mini.

I guess the key question is what happens on Iphones after software updates stop. If its something very bad, then I will have to replace this one soon.
I just sent in the order for a new Iphone 13 mini from Spectrum. Trading in my Iphone SE, 1st gen. They allowed $103 toward the new phone.

There should be plenty of life left in the SE. Heck, I only just recently upgraded my 6s Max after all this time to a 13 Pro Max and LOVE IT!!

Good to hear that you upgraded your iPhone, but the original iPhone SE is only on borrowed time IMHO. I predict in a short time (couple of years at best), many applications won't be able to be upgraded on the older phone. Just my $.02 worth.

Don't get me wrong, for its time it was a good device, but technology isn't keeping up with that model much longer. The 2020 model and the 3rd generation SE are a good compromise for many and the price is more reasonable than many of the flagship iPhone models.
