We will be relocating from Chicago area to Charleston, SC over summer. We have always lived in small Bungalow style homes from 80-100 yrs. ago. From looking at MLS listings - looks like Charleston has new developments. Are there any historic areas that aren't too expensive (under $350,000)?
Off the top of my head I would suggest Byrnes Down, Windermere, Old Village ($-hard to find), Wagener Terrace...But some/most of those are newer than 80-100 yrs. old.
All good neighborhoods to start in, but many would be fixer-uppers in that price range especially near downtown and if built prior to 1920. Hampton Park, Wagener Terrace, and North Central certainly have a few available built in the 30's and 40's in/around that price range. Some have even been renovated recently.
Thank you. We come into town on Thursday and will check out these areas. Does Charleston get a lot of rain in a year. Sorta in culture shock without looking forward to snow and the change of seasons.
A fair amount during Spring. During the Summer it's usually in the late afternoons/evenings, as a nice break from the 95 degree temps. Normally I insert a "say goodbye to snow" comment here...but this winter made a liar out of me.
