I am in my 5th year of Pharmacy School in the northeast. I am an adult student (2nd career) and I would love to find a home/community within 20 miles of downtown Charleston. Ideally, I would like to be within a 15-minute drive to a beach, also. I have been to Charleston a few times in the past ten years and I have fallen for it, not only for what it offers, but also for the ways it differs from the northeast.
I enjoy the difference of attitude, climate, and the general feel that this area provides. On a map, I have noticed Mount Pleasant and James Island as possible communities that meet my distance requirements.
Does anyone have any advice/reservation on these or other areas?
Mount Pleasant, James Island, and downtown Charleston would all serve you well. Don't really have any complaints about them at all. It'll just come down to which fits you best, they each have a different flavor to them.
Totally agree with DJ...there are many many options. I would advise that you choose according to your job location. The commute from James Island, Folly Beach area to Mt Pleasant would be tedious when you could live closer and not have to deal with it. Keep in mind, however, that rush hour here isn't anything like NY or CT where I am from..unless you get stuck on 26 or 526 during an accident.
Thank you all for your advice...now for the research.
