Thirty-something moving Charleston?
Any thoughts appreciated. I have a job opportunity in Charleston and I know that I love the area, having spent a fair amount of time in the low country. However, as a single gal having lived in bigger cities where one is likely to come across other single, thirty-somthing, professional types -- I want to be sure that I would not be isolating myself. I understand that the young(er) twenty-something crowd is in good company -- what about the slightly older group? Are there good business opportunities attracting/supporting others like myself to and in the area -- or is Charleston better suited for the collegiate or already-settled (married) ones? Thank you!

I think Charleston's a GREAT city for people our age. I'm 32, the majority of my friends are in their 30's, single, and having tons of fun in Charleston. I don't know which business opportunities you're looking for, but Charleston has a very strong economy and plenty of thirty-something professionals meandering about.

Have you already moved? Did you find what people said being true?

Thanks for responding. No -- I have not moved yet -- still doing the research. My gut is that I would love it there, the one hinging element is whether or not I would be in good company. It is a little dauntinig moving from a bigger metropolis where one is sure to come across like-kind in terms of education, careers, etc. Some people have inferred that Charleston is best-suited for college kids, young families (which sounds great -- it's just that I'm not there yet) or retirees. What do you think?

You need to come visit and see for yourself. Charleston has something for everyone, all age groups. I'm in my early thirties, no kids yet, and I love it here! There are plenty of "new in town" social groups to hang with as well. You'd make friends in no time, and wouldn't even think twice about moving back.

You will have plenty of company. The social life for that age is active - just a little younger than me.

I am glad to hear that Charleston isn't just for 20 somethings who like to party.
I am so way over 30 I barely remember it. I am glad it is a city for every age group and marital status.
How is the crime rate in Charleston? I want to be able to go for a walk without worrying about being robbed. That is what put me off of moving to Savannah. The street crime is really bad there.
