Have read all the postings from 1-30 and appreciate all the info there...we are just starting our look into (internet only at this point) Del Webb Charleston...we both currently work, live in a 55+ community in Mystic, CT and have a small condo in a gated community in Oldsmar, FL. (not age restricted).
We are considering selling both (if the market allows), and moving into a Del Webb community... Charleston being an area we've visited and enjoyed.
So, our question to those who have already moved in...how is it?? Are you pleased w/your decision, and if so why?
And, we noted that a MA person moved in...so do we have some Red Sox/Patriots fans there?
As my husband is currently a dealer at Mohegan Sun, we wonder what SC's gaming laws are? Do they have casino's, horses, or dogs?
Also, as I would most likely work per diem in my field of nursing, can anyone speak to the medical facilities in the Charleston area?
Thanks...carol

OK Carol - NO Redsox or 18-1 Pats fans are allowed here ONLY Yankees and Giants...

Ahhhh the Casino question...Until I run and get elected for Governor there is NO casino gambling in SC ...On the flip side of that, I do host a weekly poker game @ my house and there's a slot machine to accompany it...So your husband can either deal for us or join...But shhhhh don't tell Summerville's finest what goes on here..."What happens in Summerville, stays in Summerville"

Thank you 'pokerplayer'...you have our vote!!!
Are you in Del Webb's community? If so, how do you like it?

Husband is avid Boston Fan (raised in MA), and I'm a sometimes closet NY fan (raised in that switchover area of CT)...did you move down fron NE, and if so, was the adjustment from our 'in your face pace' to 'Southern sweet' difficult?

We also are very interested in Del Webb Charleston and visited last October. You have to visit.........its too awesome to explain, as is Charleston itself. Our timetable is 2-3 years, we still have one in college and also we want to wait for the real estate market to rebound a bit(we're on Long Island) Anyway, I strongly suggest going for a visit, its the only way you can truly get a feel for the place. The internet just doesn't do it justice. We are planning to visit again in the summer and the fall.

Sorry NE fans, no help here. Giants(DH), Jets (me), Yankees (DH),Mets(me).
If its any consolation though, we love Mohegan Sun.

pokerplr.........the DH loves poker,he plays in a weekly game up here. Save him a spot at the table!

Carol & NOMO-Undefeated, HAHA -
Ummmmm the pace of life is slooooow, it does take 'time' to get used to, I have been here since 95 and still getting used to! I've been all over the NorthEast, born & raised in NY, spent some time in Danbury CT (10yrs), then moved to CapeCod MA (5yrs)...I am in CaneBay not DellWebb, however, it's all part of the same area. From my home I can see thru the woods and see the contruction of DW...It's beautiful back there!! The whole CaneBay projects is shaping up nice...Still some years away from completion but to date we are very pleased! And even more so now that Harris Teeter is coming!

Yea thanks for the vote, I'll send you a ballot when I do run...Always have openings @ our table ...NEWBIES WELCOME, LOL!!!

PS > Luvsdabeach, ohhhhhhhh I remember it well...That same night of the bust one of our 'regulars' is a cop and he decided to show up that night in his uniform and came banging on my door @ like 11PM...Scared the living hell out of us, cruel joke!

Nomony & pokrplr
Have been asking around at work, etc. and hear only positive things about the Charleston area and Del Webb...we're hoping to visit in April, but am surprised that we aren't getting call backs from the Del Webb contact we called.
Do they have an arrangement w/any hotels re: discount rates, and/or could you suggest a place pokrplr? Thanks.

I'm very surprised that Del Webb isn't contacting you. Do you have an outside Realtor representing you? They can make sure the questions are answered, keep an eye on the progress, give you a discounted hotel and it's free.

My wife and I have are also intrested in the Charleston area for retirement. We will be stopping at Del Webb Charleston and the Elms on our way south to Florida in March 2008. The info on Del Webb has been great. Does anyone have any info on The Elms?
