Wife just mentioned we should consider Charleston in our move south away from high tax, high cost of living, and high stress New England.
i have my own patent and trademark law practice that i would simply move with me. my question is, do you all think there is enough businesses and/or inventors in the area that would make such a move economically feasible? most of my clients find me through my website, and I also do direct marketing. also, for patent law, i can have clients anywhere in the USA or the world, since patent law is a federal practice. but, a majority of my clients end up being relatively close to me.
we were also thinking of Wilmington, NC also, and the proximity to the research triangle made me optimistic about my ability to get enough work there, but I wonder about Charleston.
Check with Barnwell, Whaley, Patterson & Helms. They do have a pretty established patent practice. They might be able to give you some insight into the area. I think you'll find the market for patent law is absolutely present in Charleston.
I don't know about the patent part of the question but the move to the Charleston area from N. E. will be a positive. I sell houses and many of my clients are from the northeast and they love it here.
Best value for your housing dollar is in Summerville- 22 miles from Charleston.
