My husband and I are moving to the Charleston area this fall (by October 1st the latest). We are looking for a 2 -3 bedroom place (hoping to have a baby soon ) in the downtown Charleston or Mt Pleasant area. Our budget is up to 2000/mo. We have been looking on Craigslist but are wondering if anyone can suggest a real estate agent.
We currently live in Baltimore and will only have one weekend near the end of August to come down and look at places. Would it be better to have an agent set up showings or will be we be fine stricktly working through craigslist??
Any and all suggestions are welcome!! Thank you so much for your help
A local real estate company hosts a free rental search tool which is amazing. https://goo.gl/XiXeK
Provides filters for size, location, price, and much more. Craigslist is great too but requires more time.
I would be very wary of looking for a rental on Craigslist. There are MANY rental scams on there.
The scammers even use (steal) photos of real properties to use in their listings. I know this from first-hand
experience when we were moving here from out of town and looking for a short-term rental.

I hate this, but it's so true. We're looking to relocate in the next few weeks and while searching Craigslist I found this adorable little home that would be so ideal for us. I emailed to ask a couple of questions and BAM I was hit with a scam. They said they were the homeowners but currently lived in South Africa as missionaries, blah, blah, blah. I was so disappointed! I never responded (instead, I flagged the post), but I know that had I they would have asked for a money order to be mailed to whatever address... I'm glad we're smart enough to recognize a scam when we see one, I just feel badly for the people that they do draw in thinking that it's legitimate.

That happened with our downtown rental, actually. Of course nobody ever looks into that type of scam until it's too late, unfortunately.
I worked with Jeanne O'Donnell in my search for a home and she has been wonderful. I know her realty company (ERA Tides) does work with rentals as well so either way you're covered! Good luck with your house hunt and move
I used Carolina One to buy my home in Summerville, they are an excellent agency. I highly recommend them.
