We always want to live close to the beaches
Is Folly Beach, Isle of Palms always crowded?
Any space for parking? Is it family friendly? (lot of wild young adults is a no-no)

Also, is there any other beaches near Charleston?
Are all of them public beaches?

Thank you

Isle of Palms, Sullivan's Island and Folly Beach. Folly Beach has a bit of everything, the most surfers, the largest crowds during the summer, and the most shops/restaurants/bars within walking distance. It does tend to have a younger crowd, and with only one road in and one road out of Folly, you can get caught at time.

Sullivan's and Isle of Palms are quieter. All the beaches have public parking, whether it's pay to park or simply off-street and I'd recommend any of them for a beach house.

We live in Summerville, and drive down to Folly for the day quite often. I takes about 30 mins. if you don't go at rush hour. We love it. We usually pay to park and just stroll on down. Plus you can grab a little dinner and a couple of cold ones at the Crab Shack before you leave!

BTW, this heat wave has been great! I love sitting on a beach in October! WOO HOO!!

Want a quiet beach with just families? It's the Beachwalker County Park on Kiawah. Just about the same driving time as Folly & IOP from Summerville.

I would definitely recommend IOP for family friendly. Don't park at the public park at the front of the island when you first get off the connector...drive on down Palm Blvd and find a parking spot on the side of the road near one of the public beach access paths and you will find less crowds and more space. Also, try to time your trip for low tide as this allows for more beach space so people can spread out.

I would second what Jim Said of Beachwalker @ Kiawah Island.

Talking Beaches

Hi I love the beaches in Charleston! I dont think they are crowded by anymeans. Folly is more laid back and IOP is more snooty in my opinion.
But both are great and you can visit either one because they are so close to each other.........

I realize you are a real estate agent and I am not buying right away but I really need Help. Please see my post (moving from Hawaii to SC 10/26). There is only one reply and that is someone in Hawaii. I am excited about coming home, but my last southern home was a sailboat at Hilton Head marinas (Harbourtown & Taylor's Landing). This time will be in a home with a car - away from the touist activity. HELP please.
Aloha,
Beth
