to eat at on both James Island/Folly Beach, Johns Island, Mount Pleasant and Summerville, that embody the local flavor (not chains), is "casual" (don't have to dress up to eat there), good food (more than just burgers and fried seafood), preferably has outdoor seating, and is reasonably priced (under $50 for 2 for lunch and a drink), where would you eat in each place? A view would be a major bonus.

We're not adverse to just having burgers and a beer if it's a fun place with a great view/vibe and the food isn't crappy. I love a great burger. There was a place across from Waters Edge that a lot of people were at - lots of boats going in and out - that seemed like fun.

We'll be coming out in May for 5 days and want to see the areas we have not seen yet - the public beach at Kiawah, James Island and Folly Beach, Johns Island, Summerville and more of Mount Pleasant, which is where we spent all of our time before.

We'll be eating just lunch out, dinner where we are staying at the Post House so we can just come back at night, relax, and share a bottle of wine and not have to worry about driving, so looking only for lunch.

Last time there we were only there for a long weekend and ate lunch twice at Waters Edge (??) on Shem Creek and loved sitting and watching the water activity.

Also, is Fresh Farms Village worth visiting? We want to see more of the "country" life - farm stands, farmers markets, local stores. We live near a great farm now that sells fresh meat, all kinds of fresh vegetables, eggs, homemade pies, pumpkins, etc. and we love it.

Poe's on Sullivan's Island. Great atmosphere. Not on the water but across the street from the beach

Do you want to rule out downtown? I think everyone should experience Poogan's Porch at least once, simply because of the history of the restaurant. It's one of the most haunted restaurants in the world. If that doesn't creep you out too much, they have amazing Lowcountry food. No view, but it's located in an old Victorian home.

Yes, no downtown this trip. We're short on time. We'll be doing one "place" (James Island, Johns Island, Summerville, etc.) each day, and so want lunch in the place we are at.

Also, saw both Sullivan's Island and IOP last trip, so won't be doing those either. Loved both though!

And yes, years ago we ate at Poogan's Porch - upstairs on the front porch! - and loved it.

So.... looking for suggestions this trip just for -

James Island/Folly Beach
Johns Island
Kiawah
Summerville
Mount Pleasant

Since we've been to Water's Edge twice now, someone suggested Vickery's since we love Shem Creek. Good idea?

Folly Beach Shrimp Company will meet your criteria.

You can follow up with a stroll on the pier, or beach

Bowens Island could be in consideration if you like divey, local flavor places (I truly dig that place)

I like Red's Ice House on Shem Creek for a beer and a view of the boats & dolphins while having a bite to eat in Mount Pleasant. I also like Smokey Oak Tap Room or Melvin's BBQ on James Island for barbeque.

Yeah Red's food is not good...not worth eating there at all -- cross the creek -- Vickerys is not so bad.

Is Vickery's on Shem Creek? Where is it in relation to Water's Edge?

OK, we'll save Red's for a beer some night at sunset...

Here's a couple places that I read were good - yes or no? And not sure if they do lunch or not. Also not sure if they will fit our budget or "casual" request.

Johns Island:
Tomasso
Wild Olive
Fat Hen

James Island:
Smoky Oak Taproom
Mondo's Delite
Lemon Grove Grill

Mount Pleasant:
Page's Okra Grill
Five Loaves Cafe
Coleman Public House
Long Point Grill

Summerville:
The Ice House
Alessandra's Italian
Accent on Wine

Daniel Island:
Laura Albert's Tasteful
Sermet's Courtyard
