In today's Post and Courier there was an article talking about how there may be a possible Mid American Conference-Sun Belt Conference bowl game in Charleston at Johnson-Hagood Stadium in 2014.
Like it has been since 2000, the Confederate flag being on the State House in Columbia is an issue.
I don't think the NAACP will accept any kind of compromise. I'd say move the Confederate flag off to the side of the State house, don't have it right up front near the street, but the NAACP probably won't go for that.
I don't see how it is these college football people's business what we do in this state though. They probably going to have to bribe or blackmail us with a better bowl game that that one though, LOL. An ACC vs SEC bowl game would probably be more enticing. I couldn't tell you what teams play in either one of those conferences.
One way to look at this is they are "punishing" black college football fans over the Confederate flag which is a non-issue for most people in SC, white or black.
Personally I believe we have to many bowl games and don't feel the system needs any more. When you can go to a bowl with nothing more than winning record...
As far as the Confederate flag.. that's a state issue and don't feel the state should succumb to pressure by the NAACP.
The current placement of the flag is a result of a compromise, but the national NAACP decided not to honor it. In the previous attempt to bring a bowl game, the bowl was planning to include investment in the local area that is predominantly black and planned a job fair for the same community. The national NAACP continued their protest despite a clear benefit to the local black community. They are doing damage to the community they pretend to support in the name of an argument that has already been settled to most - in the name of having a cause.
