Have any folks living in the area of Mt. Pleasant/Charleston used a decorator to help them out? Any recommendations? I had a gal back in the ATL area that helped pulled together some stuff. Nothing outrageously expensive -- just a good eye with access to material we didn't have.

Thanks. I know the furniture stores offer services but I thought I would ask as well.

The only person I know and recommend from the area is Karen Caldeira. She's in Mt. P, her website is: I.N.T.E.R.I.O.R.S by Karen

I don't know any decorators, but if you give Karen's Korner Gallery and Framing a call, I'd bet she'd give you some recommendations.

Cute story.

Shortly after moving to MTP in 2000 we went furniture shopping. Stopped in one well one known local furniture store. Looking around. Sales person came over and asked can I help? I said I did not know you sold used furniture as I pointed to a piece. I was informed that is was not used. It was new and it was the "distressed" look. I thought well if I want distressed, I will buy used.

Advice. If you talk to an interior designer that says distressed.....go to Habitat for Humanity and buy my old distressed looking furniture that I donated.....LOL

Thanks but I will decline any decorating advice from a guy (assuming) that didn't know the difference between distressed and used....LOL.

I'm joking. We always say that about our furniture/house when our dog or kids would wreck it -- it's distressed. Distressed was big in the 80's and has made a come back.

Hasn't distressed morphed into 'shabby chic'?

It did around 2000. I thought it went away around 2004, or at least it did out on the west coast... has it finally made its way over here?

If so, there's this whole tuscan thing that everybody needs to get clued in on that will be all the rage soon.

Wasn't Tuscan around 2003...it was in Atlanta suburbs. Everyone was doing that look in our neighbourhood -- I don't care for it.

True -- 'distressed', 'shabby chic' aren't the 'in' thing. I think the predominant 'trend' in design and decorating has been modern or contemporary. Some think the next trend will be more traditional......

I suspect none of us are trendsetters so we are free to decorate as we please.
