One of the many things we plan to do in the first few months is make sure to support the great local places that, for whatever reason, need attention and support.

Are there any places out there that seem to be struggling or need the attention and gossip to get some business? Anything from plumbing to BBQ, handymen to taxi service. We'd love to put our money into our neighbor's pockets. This is not an ad, just a future local that wants to keep these folks in the local economy.

I can think of a local charter boat captain that could use some business....

He spends way too much time on C/D to be working hard....

LOL....

I love supporting local businesses. When I get good service or have a good experience at a local restaurant, I definitely talk them up on here, on Yelp, Facebook, etc. I tell friends.

However, I've been to a few that were less than impressive, and just because they're locally owned, I won't support them if they're not really good. I went to one local restaurant a few times for networking events, and it was just bad (I've found out it's since closed). The networking events constantly told us to support the restaurant because they hosted our events.

It was great for them to host, but I couldn't justify going there when there wasn't much on the menu I could eat (vegetarian), and the service wasn't good. Yes, the business needed the help- but it needed help in the form of better management, service, a different menu, etc. Not just people going there.

I support local businesses, but I also support *good* businesses.

So easy to go local in Charleston. Hope that never changes. Some folks on this board have been here a while so if you need a service they probably can direct you towards a local business man (like the Capt.).

After the Sloppy Cow went under and the owner was posting here, I wonder if there are any others...
