Is there a place to buy Sponge Candy around here? Apparently it's some yummy candy out of New York and I want to try it. Maybe someone around here sells it since there are a lot of New York people here. If not, I will order online. Thanks!
Robynn, sponge candy doesn't do well here due to the higher humidity level (it makes it hard to properly make here). Your best best would be to buy online... and yes, it's very delicious!
The closest thing down here to sponge candy is at World Market, called 'honeycomb' candy. It's similar to sponge candy, but the inside is harder, and doesn't melt in your mouth the way sponge candy does.
I asked at Southern Season, and they affirmed it's because of the humidity here that it doesn't make or keep well in our climate.
We became addicted to sponge candy when we lived in Buffalo, and miss it - a lot!
We've had the honeycomb from Tasty Image - as with the World Market candy, it's got a harder, crunchier 'crack' and not the melt in your mouth that sponge candy does.

I figured I might try the honeycomb first to see if I like the flavor... and then if I do, I'd order the real Sponge Candy from Fowler's New York
