I love Folly.
It is what it is....a laid back, hippy, surf, stoner, live n let live beach town. Unfortunately, you're going to have some outside (or new Folly money) forces who are going to try and change the character, hope that never happens.

Go to Berts and buy their shirt, it'll explain everything.

I like Folly just the way it is, laid back and relaxed. That's why I call it Key West - North. My first visit was the summer of '66 when the Folly Pier was going strong with the little amusement rides and small line of 'boardwalk' shops for hot dogs, fries and cotton candy. The concrete 'boardwalk' is still there in front of the Holiday Inn and the fishing pier has replaced the music pier, but nothing stays the same. Money has come in along with condos and large beach boxes, but for me I'll stick with the 'trashy' cottages in the older section. I know time moves on and you can't go back, but I guess we just have different views of what we like in a 'beach town'. Let's try to keep Folly the way it is as much as we can.

Not sure KW is a good comparison to Folly. Maybe KW of 20+ years ago, but KW is very commercialized now, not the place Jimmy Buffett sings about.

Took a ride to Folly yesterday. What amazed me was how high those houses are elevated out towards the lighthouse. They definitely have a unique look to them! I did like the natural setting of the beach over that way, but not crazy about having to pay for parking and no dogs allowed on the beach.
We live five minutes from IOP, so it is easy to just drive up for a quick walk on the beach. Definitely am not looking forward to parking passes after seeing paid parking at Folly.
