..have you considered temping? it will get you local references -and this is SO important in the south - and will get a local city on your resume, instead of an out of state one.
...how about volunteering, for the same reasons?
When I moved to charleston years ago, I actually had an interviewer call me 'a bit of a gypsy' for having moved! I volunteered, took part time work with county govt, and finally landed a ft position about 10 mos later. good luck. it's important you get 'local', interms of references and experiences....

I just did a generic job search from Career Builder, there are over 1K listed within 30 miles of Charleston.

Pick one that is close to what you can do, it never hurts to bow and fetch a little every now and then.

This gives you local experience, local references, etc....

Some of the new companies are listed through this posting string: Google, Boeing, Bayer Chemicals, Behr Heat transfer, Cummings, Chrysler, Etc...

Good Luck

You are just as crazy to think that you are going to find a job while "long distance" job hunting. How do you network in Charleston if you don't live in Charleston? Why would I hire an out of state employee and deal with the hassel - i.e. waiting for them to move, dealing with the fact that they don't know anyone, and the chance they won't like it and move back to Ohio?
