my family and I are planning on moving down to charleston within a year or so it seems like a nice place to raise a family but it is a big city. What are some safe areas in charleston or surounding cities. We already have a young boy and will soon have another baby so we want to live in a more family oriented area. We donnot wish to exceed 150 and would like to stay closer to 100. Is this realistic? also I am a hairstylist and I was wondering what kind of good salons are near by theese locations
You will have a very hard time finding a home in that price range in Charleston. You will have better luck trying towns away from the coast. A more realistic average price of a home in the Lowcountry is in the mid-200's, then they go up from there. If you do find a house for $100,000, there is a reason for it being so low and it might not be a safe area to raise children.
Distance from the coast will make a difference in the home price, but I think you would be surprised and generally pleased with what you can find in Summerville below $200,000. Moderator cut: edit
The Dorchester II School system which serves this area is well regarded and there is a wide range of recreational opportunities for kids of all ages. My wife and two kids and I like it more and more the longer we live here.

Reason: real estate agent solicitation

Yes, but that's just about double what he can afford.
Here's the straight scoop & it isn't pretty for a family of four.
$100K in a nice place to raise a family of four? Sorry, No can do.
Around $125K? We can get you there. It may be small, but it can work.
$150K? No Problemo.
1. Get with a Realtor, it's free to you.
2. Get pre-qualified with at least two lenders.
Nick, this is not going to be easy, but you will need to make some decisions.
Schools vs house vs commute, etc.
