My husband has been offered a job in the Ashley Phosphate area. Due to the traffic situation, we would like to find a house within 3-5 miles from that area. We are looking in the 400s. No kids. Our ideal would be a well built home with at least a quarter acre. Any subdivision suggestions? We may end up in Coosaw Creek, but would like to find other options. Thanks!
Aren't there some nice developments if you continue on Ashley Phosphate and cross Dorchester Rd.? I know my son had a friend who lived back there. I'm sure you can find them on Zillow. That would be great proximity for someone working on Ashley Phosphate.
Look for Listings in Wescott Plantation, rather than Coosaw Creek. Also check out the subdivisions on the River side of Dorchester Road at the foot of Ashley Phosphate Road. I think it's called Whitehall. Some very nice homes back there -- some with river views.
I agree with other developments, but there may be some nice homes in Hanahan that could fit what you want as well. Not far from Ashley Phosphate, and you'd be in Berkeley County, which may be a little cheaper, I'm not complete sure.
I apologize if anyone has asked this question previously. I didn't see it in my search of the forum.
What's the real deal on North Charleston? It was unsettling for me to read that it was among the cities with the highest murder rate last year, yet in this post some of you have said it's perfectly safe so long as one exercises caution and common sense.
I'm a petite woman with a gentle dog who lived in Chicago for six years. Violent crime can occur anywhere in Chicago, and it did (I'm talking rapes, assaults and shootings), even in neighborhoods with multi-million dollar homes. But it never bothered me. I just made sure I made smart decisions such as not venturing out alone after a certain time of night (as in, midnight).
I'm relocating to either Charleston or St. Pete in the fall and I've been tempted by some of the low rent rates in North Charleston. Would I be safe there or should I avoid it? West Ashley is my primary area of interest, but rents aren't as low there as I've found in North Charleston.

Thanks in advance!
North Charleston gets a bad rap for a bad crime rate overall, but it’s typically in isolated pockets and among people who know each other. There were a couple isolated cases last year where a couple people were killed at complete random “just for fun” which had nothing to do with any bad judgement or street smarts.
