Hello All...
I was in charleston last summer and will be there again this summer with the kids. Loved it but noticed there was not as much "water activity" as I was expecting with Chas being surrounded by oceans, rivers, etc.
We loved the beach but did I miss the river swim spots, fishing marines, fishing boats, etc. I did not see any people in any water except for the beaches. Maybe I was expecting too much or maybe I missed these areas. Any info would be appreciated!

I think you may of missed it. What beach did you go to? If you went to Iop or Sullivans just look down the Intracoastal..you'll see all kinds of boats.

You just missed it. Much of what tourists see is the harbor and Shem Creek neither of which are good for recreational sports. Much of the activity is up rivers and creeks or on barrier islands.

And the best surfing in South Carolina. Don't forget kitesurfing, too. People are all over the water right now, are you nuts?!? Just kidding, but I can't seem to get away from all the crowds, lol.

Exactly right Rggr...I saw the harbor and Shem Creek but didn't know enough to go looking elsewhere. Do you (or anyone) have a suggestion or 2 to find up river water activity for me and my little boys? Thanks.

There are several things at the Wild Dunes Marina. wild dunes yacht harbor

There is also kayaking out of Shem Creek.

At Folly Beach, you can kayak, ride jet ski's, go parasailing, take surfing lessons etc.

There are several sites where you can charter a boat to go fishing - inshore or offshore - or take tours - dolphin watching etc.

Eco Tours runs out of Wild Dunes and would take you out and show you some of the wildlife.

Those are a few that come to mind immediately. I'm sure others have some suggestions as well. Do you have any particular interests?
