Hi All, I'm relocating from Boston to Charleston at the end of this month. Though I haven't done it before, I am looking to volunteer as a math tutor at local middle/high schools (other venues?). I have a BS and MS in math, and some teaching experience in grad school.

I'll be doing some other research about opportunities, but I just wanted to check to see if anyone here knows of any programs that I may be able to look into. Thanks.

Check with the Charleston, Dorchester and Berkeley County School Districts. Each office would be able to help you find what you need...

Good Advice from OleTomCat. There are also recommended tutors listed on some of the schools websites. Look up the high schools in the area and find their websites. Not sure how you get on the list. I found a list for Wando High School for my daughter.

Good Luck! By the way, I know that the school districts are always in need of math teachers in this area.

Wow, thank you in advance! We are always looking for volunteers from the community...esp. upper level Math. I would just contact the principals at the schools close to where you are moving. That's the way volunteering is handled, by the individual principals, not through the district offices. You'll have to get security clearance first, of course, but the principal(s) can help you with that. It's a 3 or 4page form you fill out, then your background is checked.

If you have some idea as to where you'll be living, you can PM me and I can give you the names of the nearest middle and high schools and tell you which ones might be in the most need of tutors.

Again, THANK YOU!!

I would look up the middle school and high schools for the school boards mentioned and contact the administration for each school. There may be a Principal who is looking for someone just like you.
