Starting in the spring of 2011, the Lowcountry will have major new air service on Southwest Airlines.

They plan on doing at least 6-8 flights a day at the beginning, with more then planned.

This is a huge grab for the area, as they will gain hundreds of millions in new commerce from the flights (all on Boeing 737s).

Here is a route map:

Travel Guide - Southwest Airlines

I have a poll ready to show what cities are popular. If you say other, please say what city you want to fly to.

Default Horray for Charleston and Southwest!

First off I am thrilled that Southwest is coming. I have flown into Raleigh and have driven the 4 hours to get to Charleston. I vote for Philly as this is my home city.. for now. I have a retirement home in Summerville and will be making the trek back and forth between Philly and Charleston. Southwest can't come soon enough in my book. Looking forward to be there permanently! Ed

Default another vote for...

Philly...My first pick would be Newark, but since that isn't on the route map, the next best thing would be Philly.

Atlanta! Until Charleston joins the ranks of airports like Charlotte and Raleigh/Durham with good rates to and from the big southern cities, we AT LEAST need an AFFORDABLE puddle jumper back and forth to the closest ones that do have good rates. Atlanta is one of those airports. Lets get a $50 round trip puddle jumper to and from any or all of these three airports. Raleigh-Durham is on the list but Charlotte, NC and Atlanta, GA aren't.
