The former mayor hated the Regatta and the mall. Wanted Charleston to be like it was for him in the 50’s and 60’s. I’m not a fan of the current mayor but if she’s done one good thing this is it.
Another big year for Regatta! It has been estimated that the economic impact was nearly $37 million for the greater Charleston area, and an attendance of over 220,000 people. That is fantastic!

Incredible. The Regatta has been far more successful than probably anyone would have imagined. Very interesting that the Washington D.C. origin market is bringing so many visitors to Charleston.

As a Washington DC area resident (grew up in Charleston), that does not surprise me. There has been extensive marketing here for the New River Gorge National Park, Tucker County, and West Virginia Tourism in general. They've papered the walls in Metrorail stations, ads on the local news/ radio/ Washington Post, busses, etc. Glad Regatta is such a success again- I was there for a day!
