Just heard about this on the news today:

CMS discusses possible school closures | WCNC.com | Charlotte News, Weather, Traffic, and Sports | WCNC.com | News for Charlotte, NC

My school is on that list.

Does anyone have any information or advice? I "heart" CMS

Wow! I am shocked to see Ballantyne Elementary and Alexander Middle on that list! What in the world is going on? The article is definitely lacking any detailed info.

Exactly. I would not have posted such a short article that is lacking substantial details. If they needed more info then they should have waited until they have it instead of rushing to be the first to report it.

My daughter had 23 kindergarten students in her class with no assistant (Berewick). Winget where a friend goes 3 miles down the road has 16 and the new school over by Rivergate has 17. All 3 are within 6 miles of each other and all are fairly new . I can't figure out how CMS works on placing kids. I guess you heart CMS depending on where you live. I personally think a 7:30 start time for K-5 is ridiculous and wonder what are we getting for our money.

I suppose that when you are faced with possible overcrowding of your schools, the ony option is to shut those schools down, and hope the problem goes away?

My main question is where do the students go when the schools that are on their way to being overcrowded go? To another school that is already overcrowded with trailers?

Agree the article is so low on information it's pitiful. Should be interesting to see if anything new is added at the 11 PM news cast. Tried sending an email to the principal through the CMS website, but the email capacity of that site appears to be down

Why/How does overcrowding lead to closing? If a school is overcrowded, why would they close it? It would seem that schools well below capacity would be combined. What am I missing here? Taben

I'm equally confused by the overcrowding excuse. If their objective is to get me to watch the WCNC news at 11, it's working.

Fox Charlotte's 10 o'clock news said it was under performing schools that were being closed. Which is still just as confusing as a reason as the overcrowding one. Wouldn't hiring better teachers be the better option? Otherwise you're just busing the children to another school which will end up being overcrowded. That isn't really going to help them get ahead in school.

Here is a list of the schools, and now the real story comes out: it's about money, of course. https://extranet.cms.k12.nc.us/news/...01044906PM.pdf
