Wow...CMS is at it again? Do you all think they will close Harding as a high school and dispurse the students, then make it into Smith Language or will they change their minds...again?

At this point I don't think they really know WHAT they will do.
If the parents and supporters of Harding scream as loudly as those at Waddell did, maybe the school board will back off.
Personally, I think they should close the worse performing high schools like West Meck and Garinger before they close one making good strides like Harding.
I understand some schools simply HAVE to close though and do not envy those having to make the final decisions.

Waddell has also more teachers for less students, more support staff and is underutilized.
There are too many high school seats and with the budget as it is, CMS has to close one school. OK, but which one does CMS want to close? The one which has the best results, of course. It makes sense, right? Well... to CMS it does.

One is a neighborhood school, one is a magnet. Huge difference there. Don't know what the right answer is here, but it's a bit more complicated than just test scores.
They need to close the schools that are underutilized. Just look at the map of high schools in Mecklenburg County. A few years ago the not-to-bright members of our school board voted to build numerous schools in the central Charlotte area. We can no longer afford to keep these partially filled schools up and running.
Its not about the quality of the school, its about saving money that we no longer have.
