I need to get my passport for the first time by April. I went at 3:15 on a weekday last week and even though they closed the office at 4 they turned me away. I didn't realize how busy they get.

Are there any passport offices that take appointments?

If not, I want to try the USPS office on Golf Links Drive off of Providence on a Saturday since they are open 1:30-3:30 for passports, but I don't know how early I should get there...any suggestions? I tried calling this location to ask but it just rings and rings and rings.

I would think the post office gets busier toward closing time, so I would go either late morning or around noon. You will probably have better luck.

If you can go on a weekday, try the Rock Hill Clerk of Court. We tried going to the USPS office on Providence and left after waiting an hour to move only two spots ahead. The Clerk of Court office had no one waiting and we were in and out in less than 10 minutes. Call ahead to confirm hours and be ready to pay in cash.

IMHO going at noon would put one into the mass of people going to the PO on their lunch breaks, and that may also be during the break time of some of the post office employees.

Thanks, I will look into this! I live in Indian Land and work in York, so I can't get to the USPS during the week unless I have a day off.

If those don't work for you, the Gastonia PO is real quick and efficient. I went there first thing one morning and was out in 15 minutes.

The Heath Springs, SC post office takes appointments and provides photo services. Fill up your form before going there. Took 3 passports (hubby and kids) 45 minutes to process for all 3.

Thanks all! I may try the Saturday hours at the Golf Links USPS since it's conveniently located and just bring my nook and prepare to wait a good bit. I'm still annoyed that every time I try to call them it just rings and rings and rings.

If that doesn't work I have a furlough day next week and I can try the Rock Hill Clerk of Court.
