Anyone have a clue how much it would cost to have someone install engineered, glue down hardwoods? The total square footage would be right around 1,200 and I am looking for someone who would pull up the current carpet/vinyl and finish the trim as well. Also would appreciate any recommendations. TIA

I'm a few months away from doing this too! Just my kitchen though. My initial thought was to check Lowe's and Home Depot first, then Empire Today. ET certainly advertises a lot. Is it local franchises? Any info would be helpful.

To get prices most people suggest Lumber Liquidators (good selection)
Lumber Liquidators: Hardwood Floors for Less!

I would then check out places like servicemagic for reviews and recommendations of installers. We actually had our plumber do ours since he was in the middle of a major plumbing project. He did a good job and charged about $7 per square foot for installation plus material. We paid about $1.75 per sqft for removal of our old flooring and preparation.

1200 seems like a huge project. Are you sure you measured properly?

Thanks Frank, so if I am understanding you correctly I can estimate approximately $9/sq ft for removal and install + materials? The sq footage is correct, we are doing our entire downstairs which is an eat-in kitchen, bedroom, family room, dining rm, hallway, bathroom and office. $10,000 for install may just be worth doing it ourselves. My husband is very handy and actually likes doing home project. Thanks for the info!

$7 per square foot for installation is extremely high. Most flooring companies are installing for half of that right now, some even less.

Lowes is offering installation for $1.99 per sqft if material is purchased from them.

BUMP

Has anybody here used Lumber Liquidators? What about Lowe's?

Could you state your experience please?

I currently have hardwood on the first level, but due to terrible previous owners, the hardwood is jacked up. It just looks BAD.

I'm wondering the approximate cost of a moderate hardwood (install + material)

I wouldn't trust either of them unless it was an investment property and I was getting a great deal. Lumber Liquidators sells left overs, usually the only good products they sell are colors that people don't want. Everything else is low grade product and seconds...

Lowes will hire anyone with a clean record, some without, regardless of how much experience they have. You'd be better off finding a reference.

I've had sand and finish hardwood floors installed before. That runs around $8 sq. I could refer you to the guy who has done a few floors for me if you like. PM me if so..

Good Luck

I've never had Lowe's do any work for me, but did get a quote from them. I wasn't that impressed with the quote itself and continued to shop. We found a small company in Pineville that was fantastic. They just completed our project and their quote actually came in a bit under Lowe's, plus their service was outstanding.

Feel free to PM me if you want their information.

Lumber Liquidators is not left overs. They carry Bellawood and Virginia Mills first quality products, among others. I'm a builder and had the Virginia Mills Product put into my own home. It's a 30 year warranty product. They are a wholesaler, with no middle man, so their prices and material choices are much better than Lowes/Home Depot products. I paid $3.98/sf for the material and had it installed for $2.00/sf for hand scraped engineered glue down. I did get a bit of a builder discount, but you should be able to get a good product and install for about $8/sf.

$2/sq ft for install with removal of carpet should not be a problem, maybe more for removal of glued surfaces. If you pay $7/sq ft or $9/sq ft you need to send your money tree my way and do some real estate deals..
