Yeah, I get summer months are brutal there with humidity and all and I'm sure I'll whine about that too. And you're likely right. As my friend there told me, in Ohio, you're locked indoors for three months and need to bundle like the Michelin Man to go outdoors. That and three/four months of "Partly Gloomy".
I know I'm now "justifying" my decision But right now it sounds wonderful. Who knows, maybe Charlotte will be a stepping stone. For now, it's a place to start over.
Hate to say it but from my own observations we have plenty many persons here already wanting to do that work and are very busy doing it. The line for those not doing this work already starts in front of EL Home Depot every morning...
May be advertise in Charlotte Observer/ Craigslist/ Angies list and see if you can get some calls. Definitely a tight market but 'smart' moves are still appreciated
LoveToMotorcycle-We moved here about 5 years ago (my husband was transferred) and we love it!!
Being able to stay with someone to begin with is your best bet, so you can get aquainted with the area. That is what my sister & husband and my nephew & his wife did (stayed with us), it helped them figure out where exactly they wanted to live-etc. I think the weather here is awesome compared to Chicago (harsh winters and hot/humid summers). Best of luck to you!
No worries folks, a report 5 minutes later states - NC unemployment drops to 9.7 percent (http://www.charlotteobserver.com/2011/03/25/2171619/nc-unemployment-drops-to-97-percent.html - broken link)
Really, for the past 3 years reports from economists have been conflicting to say the least. One report would point to GDP going up, followed up with unemployment is also up, followed up with CPI is also up, followed up with housing market in the tank, followed up by Warren Buffet starts to invest, followed up by signs of double dip recession. I don't give up, but I'm close
