Hello everyone. I was driving down Summit and in the back of the big field at the corner of Summit Ave and Merriman Ave there was a huge flame that appeared to be coming from a gas pipe. Later that day the flame was gone but you could see the pipe was slightly lit, seemed to be a pilot light. But you would never know it was there when the flame isn't going.

I drove around the field and there wasn't any buildings or company signs that I could see. Only one dirt road next to the park that was closed off.

Any idea what it's for? Just curious as it was quite surprising to see a very tall flame in a open field like that haha.

There is a Piedmont Natural Gas facility way in the back of that field towards the woods.

The field itself is a contaminated brownfield site owned by Electrolux / White Consolidated.

This precisely...PNG has been flaring excess gas in multiple locations throughout Charlotte the past week or two.
