My friend and her family are visiting Charlotte area for a few days...we are relocating to the area, but aren't there yet!!! I wanted to give her a few ideas on some fun family things to do. I'll also do my own research, as I've learned about the Discovery place...but I just thought I'd get feedback from you as well.

Thank you.

Carowinds definitely, if your stay is on a weekday or Sunday, go then so the ride lines are not so long.

Also in my signature below click on things to do to help guide you on some ideas.

I may be in the minority but i believe Discovery Place is very overrated. Carowinds is an much better option.

If you guys do Carowinds stop in Bojangles they have discounts for the park, I forget how much off for Carowinds .

I would save Discovery Place til you move here as something to do.

If you like outdoors, I'd check out the US National Whitewater Center. Lots of fun stuff to do there, from rafting to climbing to kayaking.

Whitewater Rafting, Canopy Tour, Zip-Lines, Climbing, Mountain Biking, Flatwater Kayaking, Ropes Courses, Eco Trekking. USNWC | Charlotte, NC

Depending on how long you will be here, and the age of any children that will be going as well, I would recommend catching one of the Legends Car Races on a Tuesday night at Charlotte Motor Speedway. Of course, specific activities and events depend on when you will be in the area.

Well definitely take the family on a horse carriage ride in uptown. Always very very fun and you get to see uptown from a different POV.

It really depends on the age of the kids! Mine are still a bit young for Carowinds and can't ride most of the rides so they prefer the Discovery Place.
