Yeah, that area was trashy and sketchy when I moved to CLT in 2005. It keeps getting worse, with constant shootings. Isn't this the same area where a guy from NY was robbed and killed in a motel last year? Close to the I85 interchange I think. Of course, he was sketchy himself and hooked up with some .... hookers that had friends that robbed the guy. Oh well, I won't be cutting thru this area any more.

From the article...
Quote:
The shooting happened around 1:30 a.m. in the 1900 block of Terrybrook Lane, according to police. They say a white SUV pulled into an apartment parking lot, and someone inside the vehicle fired several shots at a man standing outside. The vehicle then drove off.
^^^Is anyone surprised that THIS happened on THIS street? I'm not. FWIW, there are quite a few streets like this one within 4-5 miles of uptown Charlotte. If we want our crime stats to go down, we NEED to do something with these shady looking neighborhoods. As grandma would say "if it looks wicked, then it is wicked".

What makes it look "wicked"? In the late 70s I used to know several people who live on that set of streets and you could walk down them any time without any issues. Yes, it's not that way now, but I disagree that wholesale urban renewal is the way to fix it. This is what they did in downtown and it's cold and sterile now. The only exception is 4th ward where no renewal took place.
Charlotte is a "mess" if crime is the only thing you focus on....
I think Charlotte is like any major city... it has good areas and bad areas. If you stay away from the bad areas at 1:30 AM you shouldn't have a problem.

You people kill me posting stories about violence “in the hood” trying to make it seem as if that’s a typical Charlotte neighborhood. As urbancharlotte said, nobody who actually lives here or knows the city should be surprised that something like this happened on Sugar Creek road. That’s like living in LA and saying, “Gasp!!, I can’t believe someone got shot in Compton last night”.
And nah, there’s been no urban renewal in 4th Ward at all, its looks just like it did back in the day (sarcastic voice). LMAO. Are you kidding? 4th Ward has been through a huge development stage. Either you guys don’t really live in Charlotte, or you’re purposely giving fasle statements about the city.
