We are narrowing our search for a neighborhood and school and are now leaning towards Harrisburg. Would like some info about it? Is it real rural? Is there shopping near by? How long is commute to Uptown? Does anyone know anything about the new Hickory Ridge high school? My husband would need to rent an apartment there until we sell. Anyone know of any reasonable apartments in Hick ridge school area?
thanks.

Sorry Trishlee, it's such a small place that apparently there isn't anyone here from there. I can tell you this, it is very rural and quiet - the kind of place I like I would be surprised if there were many apartments there - maybe you would have better luck finding a home to rent. Schools in the whole county are pretty good, I'm sure this new one won't be any different. It is convenient to the Concord and University areas for shopping and fun things to do.

Default Harrisburg

this is a nice town. About 40 minutes from uptown Charlotte during rush hours, 30 minutes or less non-rush hours. As for shopping, Concord Mills mall is just 5 - 10 minutes away depending on where in Harrisburg you live (A huge mall, said to be #1 tourist attraction in NC), and there are also many other large stores across from Concord Mills such as Toys R Us, Babies R Us, hhgregg, Ross, speciality stores for pets, sports, jewery...also all sorts of restaurants.

There are no apartments in Harrisburg, but you might be able to find houses or town homes for rent.

Thanks. I can take rural and quiet as long as it is safe and no more than 5-10 minutes to shopping. Is there a bus that my husband could ride into work? He won't mind such a long ride if he can sit and relax and read the paper on his way to and from work.

Default Apartments

There are nice apartments along West W T Harris blvd and IBM Drive for professionals. This is also considered "university city area" but it's a few miles west to UNCC and I don't think college kids live there. It is between Harrisburg and uptown so it cuts your commute by 10 to 20 minutes, and there are buses (I don't think there are buses from Harrisburg to uptown). However it is part of Charlotte so your kids won't go to Harrisburg schools.

harrisburg is very nice, no buses for local things. buses in the city (charlotte) hickory ridge high is beautiful. I have kids non ein high school yet but been there. My daughter is in cc griffin middle. and I have kids in harrisburg elem. GREAT SCHOOLS here. stores we have food stores close and banks dollar tree, post office, ymca. BUT the malls, hospitals, walmart, target are about 15-20 minutes away. Harrisburg is growing and will have more of these stores soon. I heard they are putting a hospital on rocky river road. I hope so!!
