Bought the house this Feb, and didn't use sprinkler system this year.

Not sure if it is winterized.

If you are absolutely certain that it has not been turned on, then it should be already "winterized" b/c all water flowing through it has long evaporated. Winterizing is basically blowing air through all the sections of the sprinkler system to ensure no water remains anywhere that could freeze, especially the valves.

Not winterizing or failing to winterize properly (which happened to me last year due to shoddy work by a former landscaper) can cost a bit of $$ to repair later.

To be the safest and protect your investment, call a local sprinkler guy who can blow them out for you to be sure. It's not expensive.

I would find the lowest head (elevation) on your property, then manually open it up. If water comes out, then it may not be winterized.

Just try to turn it on.
I assume there's a controller - probably in the garage? Try to turn on a zone or two. If the system has been winterized, the water to supply to the system is turned off and no water will come out anywhere.

So if the sprinklers come on and sprinkle, it hasn't been winterized. If they don't (and assuming you're using the controller correctly and that the system is in working condition to begin with) there is a real good chance that it's already been done.

But yeah, the best advice is probably to call a sprinkler guy to come out and look at it for you. Heck, if by some chance you live in the Steele Creek area send me a direct message and I'll come look at it for you.

Or if it needs or is designed to be...

Do you know what a Schrader valve is? <-- like used to fill your car tire.
Do you see one at the main control valve assembly?

What are the requirements of a privately owned sprinkler system in your home? Is the city going to bother anyone about it?

75 bucks, doesn't seem like you would need an entire financial firm to back you.
