This dog showed up on our front porch last night at about midnight. He's a neutered puppy, very friendly, and his neck hair looks like he usually wears a collar. We live in Landen Meadows near Audrey Kell High School. Does anyone know anyone who might have a dog that looks like this?
Have you tried calling 311 or The Humane Society to ask if anyone has reported the dog as lost? Probably your best bet for finding the owner. Don't give it to the Meck County shelter, though. Their site says they only keep the animals for 3 days. If you do have to give it up, please give it to a no-kill shelter. http://www.petfinder.com/shelters/NC35.html
Yeah, we called 311 and talked to the Humane Society and they said that they were sending someone out late last night, and again this morning, but no one has showed up (which is probably better). They have that other website where they list all the found dogs but I believe that's where they put the pictures/descriptions after they get the dog.
My wife and I have been posting on Facebook, Twitter, lostpetusa.net, here, and other websites. We plan to take him to Banfield vet to see if he is micro-chipped. Past that I suppose we could walk him around the neighborhood and post signs.
Just called in and cancel the animal control coming by, knowing our luck they would come by when we were out with the dog anyway... I have a friend that could watch him as well up in the University area but I'm hoping someone in this area is actively looking for him so we can get him back to his owners.
Charlotte Animal Care & Control came and picked up the friendly dog and his number is A1025051 for reference. After 3 days he'll be put up for adoption, and seeing as to how he's so friendly and neutered he has a very good chance at adoption. Additionally, they're going to give us a call after those 3 days if we would like to find a foster instead.
You may try posting that lost dog info at the vet in the Trader Joes shopping center(rea rd). I have seen many lost dog posters there. They may be able to help, or may have even treated the dog before since they are in the area.
