We'll be moving to Charlotte this summer and would LOVE some recommendations on all the best of everything! We have a 15 year old and two toddlers, so right now the best piblic high school and neighborhood are our primary concerns. So far we're thinking Weddington?? But we're definitely not sold on anything yet! We'll probably be renting for now.

Thank you!

Rental homes can be hard to come by these days and go fast.

Where is your job located?

Then Union County (Weddington) is not out of the question, but still further than you need to go.

I would suggest you look at Fort Mill, SC and south Charlotte itself.

What is your budget?

Biggest problem against moving to SC (Fort Mill) is out of state tuition for UNC.
Probably Ballantyne and Marvin are another good option (besides Weddington).

Ballantyne area may be better if you have to rent first. LovesMountains is right, the rental market is very tight right now. Single family home rentals in Marvin / Weddington schools listed on the MLS right now are starting at around $2,000.

Thanks everyone! We've considered the Fort Mill option, but also the UNC/tuition thing as well. $2,000 is the max we want to spend.

Does anyone have specifics about the best high schools? I know what's online, but beyond rankings I'd love to hear personal opinions/word of mouth input as well.

Thanks again.

If you don't mind a little more of a commute you could look in the Concord area on the line of Cabarrus & Meck but in Cabarrus County. Skybrook, Winding Walk and Highland Creek are 3 neighborhoods I would check out. The Airport is about a 25 minute drive straight down I85. My BIL has a job that requires flying quite a bit and he lives in one of the neighborhoods I mentioned. If you stay on the Cabarrus side of the county the school pyramid is Cox Mill Elementary, Harris Road Middle and Cox Mill high (it opened two years ago). The schools are really good. You also have the option for a private school - The Cannon School is nearby as well.

Belmont, in Gaston County is very near the airport. Also look in Cramerton & the SE corner of Gastonia. Even Kings Mountain would be good. it's ~30 minutes from the airport. However, Kings Mountain is in Cleveland & Gaston Counties & you want to be in Cleveland for schools.
