It looks like DH and I are getting closer to a move to Charlotte. Can anyone tell me if Duke Energy requires a deposit to initiate service? When we moved to Raleigh, Progress Energy required a sizable deposit to start up our account because we were from out of state. I tried to find out if Duke Energy requires this but I couldn't find that info on their Web site.
When we moved into our home here 6 months ago our house was already being serviced by Duke Energy. We only had to transfer it into our name. No charge.

Good to know, but we are going to be renting an apartment and were told we'd need to have service set up in our name.
I think I paid $40 or $50 to secure Duke Energy. That was back in 2002 when I moved from Florida. I believe after a year, the deposit was applied to my bill.
I don't think you will have to pay a deposit unless they find some kind of credit problem. They did our credit check on the phone as the above poster said and it was a done deal. Just had to transfer our name to the service. We moved from CA. Definately out of state!
When I rented apartment 6 years ago, I had to put $200 due to bad credit at the time. 3 years later they applied it to my bill w/interest of about 4%. I didn't have to pay mill bill for 3 or 4 months.
We put down a $100 deposit to avoid credit inquiry. (Shopping for houses/mortgages, didn't want the inquiry on my report.)
