I really need some advice. My children go to Providence HS and although it is highly rated, it is not very good at helping my middle child. It's an excellent school if your child excels academically. She has learning issues and is having a really difficult time keeping up. Last weekend, she did 16 hours of homework. Are there any Charter schools that are for high school students? I am also unfamiliar with those type of schools. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I spoke with her guidance counselor and was told that maybe a different school with smaller classes would be better for her. Her only problem is grasping the material and keeping up. There are no behavior or lack of trying issues to deal with. Thanks

I wish I had a suggestion for you. Did the guidance counselor not have any suggestions for you other than another school with smaller classes? Seems kind of irresponsible for for the counselor to give that as a suggestion without something more concrete. In fact, as a parent, it kind of makes me mad. I really feel for you and wish you luck.

There is the well regarded Lake Norman Charter School in Huntersville which is grades 5-12. They maintain a low student to teacher ratio. Unfortunately I should imagine that if your kids attend Providence, it will be a bit of a chore to commute there each day.

Good luck with your search.

Unfortunately, that was the only suggestion. I wish another suggestion was offered. Thank you.

Thank you, I will look into it even though it is far. At this point I'm not quite sure what else to do. I appreciate your response.

I would consider private tutoring to help her better understand and keep up with homework.

Good luck!

Did you buy or are you renting? If you're renting, find some tutors to help her this year & startv a thread, opened up to the Charlotte area, If you bought, look at private schools. Some might give you financial aid, depending on your circumstances. I'd include Gaston Day.School.. That would be closer than Huntersville.

Charter schools are sort of a hybrid of public & private schools.

My daughter and son went to Manus Academy during their middle school years for tutoring. Manus Our issue was reading comprehension for him and study habits for my daughter. This school really helped and I would recommend, school is located near you. Not only does this place offer tutoring but also a school w/small class environment. My daughter is now in 2nd year of college, doing well and my son is Jr. At Weddington and #20 out of his class of 375 with a 4.7 GPA.

Thank you so much for the suggestions. Is anyone familiar with Grace Academy?
