Just got word that the Penguin will be closing on 10/24 due to a dispute over the lease or something. Anyone have more information on that?

Good grief, I can't believe it! That place is a Charlotte institution!

Well, they should pack up their bags & head for Gastonia or Monroe. I'll bet they could get a really good deal on a lease in either place.

Latest I heard is they are moving in at The Diamond or something. Never heard of it, but I guess it is another restaurant in Charlotte.

The Diamond Diner, maybe. That's the diner that was moved from the Kings Mountain truckstop at Exit 5.

ETA: I'm wrong. The Diamond Diner was a diner in my old town. The one that was moved from Kings Mountain was the Midnight Diner. This is a picture of the Diamond Restaurant. http://charlotteeats.blogspot.com/20...me-eatery.html

The Diamond was on Commonwealth. Closed in April. That's where the Penguin is going.

The diamond is right around the corner from the penguin's current location. Won't be a big move if that's where they're going.

Well here is more info:

The Penguin Drive-In changes ownership | theCLog

I guess the restaurant itself isn't closing ... as in there will still be a place called The Penguin occupying that space.
