I'm wondering because I'm looking for a big city with a southern feel to it.

Pick the southern metro with the slowest rate of growth on the following link.
Top 50 US Metropolitan Areas (1996) Population from 1950

^^^IMO, Memphis or New Orleans is calling your name. Louisville is a bit too Midwestern.

Simply put - NO.

URBAN's suggestions are good. You might also like Nashville, some of the burbs around Atlanta . . . maybe Birmingham or Chattanooga?

You asked if it were "Southern" . . . it isn't very Southern at all. More non-Southerners living here than Southerners these days, lol.

Now, in outlying communities, you may find more "southern-ness."

Feel free to describe your idea of what a "big city with a southern feel to it" should be. Please be specific.

You know you're "in the south" here, but it's not the traditional slow paced southern-ness.

In "southern" towns, you get more people chatting with each other in line at the grocery, or waving to each other as they pass while driving. This is a moderately large city, it's punctual, commercial, and not into small talk with strangers.

What you are looking for can be found in Gastoneonya ....or Munroo which are cities near charloote. If you see someone waving out of their car here in the city of charlotte you better dunk because if its not someone giving the "finger" it may be someone holding a handgun....what does "in the south " mean......the same thing as "up naught"?

I just moved down here from Connecticut. I would say that it feels only slightly southern (compared to New England), but not enough to cause culture shock. There are simply way too many transplants from all over the country.
