I lent my car to a relative for a few weeks and now it stinks of cologne/aftershave whatever. I've tried to get rid of the smell, but it always comes back, even after months of leaving the windows down overnight (in garage). It's as if the perfume molecules have penetrated every permeable surface inside the car.

Please recommend a local auto detailer or other business that can remove the stench. I am considering selling the car to Carmax because it is so bad.

Whatever you do, don't sell to Carmax - at least try and get market value for it.

You need a reputable auto detailing shop. If you know someone is an auto dealer service department, maybe where you get your oil changed, ask for a a recommendation.

I have never tried any of these in a car, but they may work.

Removing Odors In Your Car

Baking soda works to get rid of odors as does charcoal so I don't see why it wouldn't work in a car.

I have had success using a car 'odor bomb'. It's kind of like a bug fogger but used to neutralize odors in the car. You can get them from Amazon pretty cheap. I used it to get rid of the smoke smell in my Mom's car and it worked great. It may leave a perfume smell in there for a couple days but after that, you should be good.

Is there one that will leave a smoke smell behind after removing a perfume smell?

The problem with getting an odor out of a car is that it's not only at the source. It's in the dash, the headliner, the vents, the seats, it's on every surface, etc. Maybe the fogger handles this better than some of the other options.

Seinfeld resorted to letting his car get stolen because no one would even buy it from him with the smell.

Go to Keffer VW and use their detail department.

I did mine car there and it's pretty cheap and car was like new without any odors and stains.

Default Fwiw

I bought an antique dresser early this week. I was concerned that maybe the wood/dresser might contain bedbugs so I bought a very effective bed bug killer I'm sure it works but the chemical smell is BAD!
So bad I can't wear the shirts I put in the drawers.

Earlier today I bought baking soda. Took out the shirts and powdered the drawers for a couple of Hours. Rewashed the clothes. Problem solved with the baking soda.

Try a dusting of baking soda for a day. Then vacuum the powder up. Good luck.
