They said evidence suggested that MetLife knew it was coming to Charlotte before commissioners on Tuesday gave preliminary approval for the incentives.

“The company seriously considered both North Carolina and St. Louis, Mo., and as part of that process, looked into everything these communities had to offer its employees, including potential office facilities, housing and schools,” he said.
When did MetLife deal go down? | CharlotteObserver.com

So we are giving incentives to companies even though they are going to move here anyways!?!?
I think the threat of moving the company to St. Louis is empty. Have they even been to St. Louis before?

MetLife made over $2 Billion in profit last year, they don't need our $2 Million to fatten their bottom line.

I agree wholeheartly. I know that when I'm out spending money, a million bucks can fly out of your wallet fast. A yacht here, limetime membership to a country club there, you don't think about it, but after about 6 million spent, sure I've got a moat around my mansion, but I'm going to have to tighen my belt for the rest of the month!

Charlotte News & Observer is stating "$94m in taxpayer-funded incentives" today. No wonder they can afford to give my husband that nice relo package

True, but I would rather have a healthy money making company move here than pay big bucks to move a struggling company here that can't afford to move themselves.

And if I was stupid enough to pay them money to move here after they had already decided to move here I would shut up about it and not draw attention to what a terrible non-negotiator I am.

This reminds me of the city's negotiation with the Panthers. They ask for $125mm and we counter offered $145mm. (or something like that)

OK so now we have two threads on this. Add up the amounts in the subject lines and we've GIVEN $121 million dollars to MetLife.

Interesting.

I don't know what we gave to any company from tax dollars but my opinion is that if a company cannot come here on their own; we don't need them. Taxpayers are the most abused people in America. It needs to stop.

Anyone seeing the pattern of secrecy involving taxpayer money at the state and local levels? And, our County Commissioners kept in the dark until the very last second, when the Wake County Commissioners knew about the MetLilfe deal coming together last December.

And, can someone please explain how NC taxpayers are getting $87 million worth of value from MetLife locating in NC?

This is secrecy and corporate welfare at its worst - so far - just wait for the Panthers deal to be inked.
