Ever since I received a new number on a cell phone when I upgraded a few years ago, I have been very guarded with its disclosure. Never had any phone marketers or other solicitations ever on my line.

Now, within the last 2 weeks, I have had at least 5 different candidates from mecklenburg call my phone, the latest was just a few minutes ago. I didn't even hang on long enough to get the name and just hung up.

Where are these people / party workers etc getting my number and others from?

I'm getting pretty annoyed with it and them.

Political parties are almost like undercover networks in some regards. They go to great efforts to match phone numbers with any other databases of donors or volunteers within "likeminded" causes.

I basically ignore all phone calls from unknown numbers anymore. That's one great thing about smartphone directories. As soon as I figure out a number is from a marketing or political org, I file it in the "Ignore" group... with a silent ring...

But like you, I will probably ditch my number at some stage and start clean.

By the way, one method to cut down on the calls is to GO VOTE EARLY. Some of the campaigns are smart enough to scrub their lists and stop bothering people who have already voted.
