This is disturbing and laughable.... You don't care what he said but since it was critical of Charlotte you agree?

Why would Charlotte build a 50 story office? We "just" started to tap into energy amd after the last bunble it doesn't make sense to throw up a bunch of high rises to prove we are adding jobs to that sector.

I think somebody has energy confused with oil companies and financial center just being Wall St. This is exactly the lack of vision we don't need.

Ok. So I'm wrong. Everyone's moving to Charlotte because the economy is booming and jobs paying $150k plus are so plentiful that they can't be filled. Unemployed people in finance and lawyers pleading for $30/hr document review jobs are a myth.

Nobody said Charlotte was the Holy Grail of cities. Every city has its downsides; Houston has weather from hell, New York you have to sell a kidney to live in (as well as San Francisco), and Charlotte needs to find some culture (in my opinion). Take a city with a grain of salt and you could enjoy just about any location. Oh and there is not a city in this country giving 150k salaries that isn't in California and New York where you pay for it through housing, gas, and taxes. Anyone that believes they can just go somewhere and make it big is either in for or already hit a big awakening. Charlotte is a fun and growing city that I love to now call home.

What's absurd is comparing Charlotte to cities that are 2x-7x it's metro size. Some of the larger cities/metros have rebounded faster due to shear size than the mid-size metros but name a mid-size metro in US building a 50+ story office tower. Austin (the fastest growing midsize metro) is building residential towers and some office towers.

I work in the energy industry and it's much broader than oil/petroleum based products and Charlotte has the largest (megawatt production) utility in the country HQ'd downtown. Charlotte is becoming more of an energy hub versus an energy capitol (although it's trying hard to sell it as such), primarily to diversify it's regional industry mix. Innovative centers like CLT Joules are attempting to move the needle with respect to Charlotte's energy hub status and entrepreneurship: CLT Joules | Business Community For Energy Innovators and Entreprenuers

Having the big guy downtown is really driving startups, expanding opportunities/presence and university research in the area:

Charlotte USA - Energy - Sector Facts, Regional Assets, Regional Initiatives, Case Studies, Sites and Buildings, Workforce and Training | Charlotte Regional Partnership

Charlotte USA - Sector Facts - Energy Capital, Duke Energy, Fortune 500, Nuclear Energy | Charlotte Regional Partnership

Heck no it's not on par with Houston or Dallas, those two employ a swath of people in the petroleum business whereas Charlotte is focused on electricity-based and alternative energy opportunities and off to a great start. Plus there are several environmental based companies expanding operations and entering the marketplace. RDU has the edge in IT, small scale electricity related technologies and jobs, but for sure bulk-based generation, transmission and delivery related operations - hands down Charlotte. And actually both areas have combined efforts to attract new business.

Lol, why the comparison to NYC?....Chicago and LA don't really compare to NYC....put down the pipe.

By all accounts, she made her long-awaited 'Escape From Checkpoint Charlotte' a while back

I can understand leaving somewhere and not liking the place you left---happens all the time here on C-D...but to continue to lob bricks at said place from your new location?

Quiet as it's kept, there are folks who LIKE Charlotte...both natives and those who have come here seeking better for themselves---meaning it's OK for you to not hold fond memories of Charlotte if you left, but don't continue to take a dump on the place long-distance

It wasn't Charlotte... some people are just miserable and work overtime trying to spread it around.

I find it disturbing when someone hates a city this much. It usually means they are from that city and never lived anywhere else. More than likely they are mad at themselves but choose to blame the city for their woes.
