Is it worth it (300 or so a year) to get the In Wall Pest Control System to control bugs? I don't think it works for termites and the same company quoted an additional 300 or so for termites! Do I need both bug and termite protection? Any advice would be most helpful!

Thanks!

We have been with Orkin for 9 years and have a 99% bug free home.
We also use them for termite coverage. A neighbor just laughed and laughed when I told him we signed up with Orkin, that first installation was expensive but incl treatment and a 100% home market value warranty against termite damage.

I had the last laugh since the same neighbor had nearly $15K in termite damage last spring. Choose wisely. Not affiliated with Orkin other than a satisfied customer.

I saw your post, but I didn't know how to respond...not sure it's worth it or not since I haven't heard anything about it good or bad. We pay Terminix to come out quarterly to spray (outside), and the termite bond company once a year. If we start seeing bugs in the house, Terminix will come out between quarterly visits to spray. I like the idea better of having someone come out and spray rather than having stuff in my walls. But that's just me...

By in wall I guess you mean the 'tubes in the wall' system. That sounds about right. It goes for 45$ to 65$ here per svc. which is every other month. Make sure they treat the outside as well........The termite seems high though.....I'd make sure you're getting a 'repair' guarentee and not just a re treat contract. Maybe your neck of the woods is more expensive but in Ocala you can get a 250,000.$ repair guranetee for about 150.00 per year.

I'll be posting an article on this subject over the wknd.-Hope it answers some questions for you.

This subject should really be of importance to homeowners in most of the U.S. If it gets any interest, I'll be interested too.

Default In Wal Pest Control

Our Condos had the tubing installed when they were built. I was told the pest control company installed it for free as longer as the builder signed a two year contract for what was usually over priced service. Our condo assoc recently got bids for treatment and none of the three companies suggested using the in-wall tubes. Present thinking is to spray outside and inside when needed.

That's pretty much industry wide, except for the scam artists.

I don't think it is needed if your house is relatively new and built to code. My opinion is that most people in the Charlotte area don't even need a yearly treatment for termites as the ground should have been thoroughly prepared to prevent termites when the house was built. This of course will be heresy to many but these yearly treatments are something that was invented by the bug industry over the last 20 years to drive income, not drive out termites. Of course if you are competely helpless, don't ever do any kinds of inspections on your home, and keep cognizant of it's condition, then maybe they are for you.
